International Development Su ccess Story: Rotarians Improve Life for an Impoverished African Village t hrough Clean Drinking Water We did it! Rotary Clubs in Marblehead\, Swamp scott\, Interact students at Marblehead and Swampscott high schools\, and everyone involved in the Duct Tape Regatta over the past 5 years have pl ayed an integral role in delivering clean drinking water to Lampiadi\, a rural village of 600 people in Burkina Faso\, one of the most water-stres sed nations on the planet. This project was an incredible success and ov ercame many obstacles that would have thwarted a less intrepid implementa tion partner. It took FOUR attempts at well drilling to find a sustainabl e solution for this village. Thankfully\, we partnered with The BARKA Fou ndation\, a unique\, dedicated and highly qualified non-profit working in Burkina Faso since 2006. You’ll have the rare opportunity to meet BARKA’ s co-founders and a delegation of 4 visitors from Burkina who helped make the project a success. This project was among the first Future Vision grants from The Rotary Foundation in 2014. It was exemplary in the way i t brought together numerous clubs\, schools\, communities in district 793 0 including interact and rotoract students. Come hear about the success we all made happen! Watch a beautiful 5-minute film that will transport y ou to Lampiadi to hear from the people you’ve helped\, see a photo slides how of how it all happened\, learn about the Walk for Water that Interact ers at Swampscott and Marblehead high schools did with BARKA this past Wo rld Water Day and get ready to see what’s next in Burkina Faso.
