Rotarians Improve Life for an Impoverished African Village through Clean Drinking Water
We did it! Rotary Clubs in Marblehead, Swampscott, Interact students at Marblehead and Swampscott high schools, and everyone involved in the Duct Tape Regatta over the past 5 years have played an integral role in delivering clean drinking water to Lampiadi, a rural village of 600 people in Burkina Faso, one of the most water-stressed nations on the planet.
This project was an incredible success and overcame many obstacles that would have thwarted a less intrepid implementation partner. It took FOUR attempts at well drilling to find a sustainable solution for this village. Thankfully, we partnered with The BARKA Foundation, a unique, dedicated and highly qualified non-profit working in Burkina Faso since 2006. You’ll have the rare opportunity to meet BARKA’s co-founders and a delegation of 4 visitors from Burkina who helped make the project a success.
This project was among the first Future Vision grants from The Rotary Foundation in 2014. It was exemplary in the way it brought together numerous clubs, schools, communities in district 7930 including interact and rotoract students.
